Culpeper Soccer Club

Meet Our Technical Director!

Dear Culpeper Soccer Club Members,

My name is Carl Gray, and I am excited to introduce myself as the new Technical Director for the Culpeper Soccer Club. I am a USSF A-licensed coach with over 40 years of coaching experience.  Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with players at various levels, from youth development to professional leagues. Here are some key highlights about my background:

Coaching Experience: I’ve dedicated four decades to coaching soccer, honing my skills at the high school, collegiate and professional level and passion for the game. As a member of the Virginia State Olympic Development Staff for 25 years, I’ve contributed to player development in our region. I have taken youth teams, to many international tournaments throughout Europe and coached the first team from the USA to win the Italy Youth International Tournament. Several of my ODP teams have competed for the National Championships.

Certifications: I hold a certification as a USSF Coaching Instructor , allowing me to share my knowledge with fellow coaches. Over 3500 coaches have attended courses that I’ve instructed, benefiting from my mentorship, many of them now coaching at universities.

Player Success: I take immense pride in having coached players who went on to play professionally in the MLS, and USL. Additionally, more than 100 of my former players have continued their soccer journey by playing in college.

Playing Background: In my youth, I played soccer in New Jersey, gaining valuable experience on the field. I had the privilege of playing collegiately at Frostburg State University, where I was selected as an All-South/All-American. My university honored me by inducting me into the Athletic Hall of Fame.

I have been a resident of Culpeper since 1979 and I helped to organize the club many years ago.

I am thrilled to return to the Culpeper Soccer Club and look forward to contributing to the growth and success of our players. Together, we can create a positive and competitive environment that fosters skill development, teamwork, and a love for the beautiful game.

Feel free to reach out to me anytime—I’m eager to connect with each of you!
